Program overview

The CEGS credential prepares experienced practitioners to supervise multi-herd or multi-site eco-grazing projects, manage crews, and report ecological outcomes to public and private landowners.

Who it's for: Crew leads, project managers, agency staff, and senior contractors overseeing prescribed grazing operations.

  • CPGA-S200 Project Scoping

    RFP response, budgeting, risk register, and stakeholder mapping.

  • CPGA-S210 Crew Leadership

    Scheduling, supervision, training, and incident reporting for field staff.

  • CPGA-S220 Ecological Monitoring

    Photo-points, transects, residual biomass, and species response tracking.

  • CPGA-S230 Regulatory Compliance

    Provincial grazing, environmental, and labour requirements.

Module 1 — Project Planning & Procurement

Module 2 — Crew Leadership & Operations

  • Daily site briefings and SOPs
  • Performance management of seasonal staff

Module 3 — Ecological Monitoring

36 hrs
  • Baseline and post-grazing vegetation surveys
  • Photo-point and transect methods
  • Data collection apps and field GIS

Module 4 — Regulatory & Stakeholder Management

32 hrs
  • Provincial grazing and weed-control law
  • Indigenous engagement and consultation
  • Public communication, media, and signage

Module 5 — Outcome Reporting & Continuous Improvement

32 hrs
  • Client-facing outcome reports
  • Lessons-learned and adaptive management
  • Mentoring CPGP-level practitioners

Assessment

  • Capstone project: full proposal + monitoring plan for an assigned site
  • Oral defense before a CPGA panel
  • On-site supervisory evaluation during practicum weekend

Recertification: Renew every 3 years with 40 hours of continuing education and one supervised project per cycle.
